Welcome to this hybrid workshop exploring how advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) can be used for product and environmental benefits. The workshop brings together steel users, producers, and industry experts to discuss the potential of AHSS and how to tackle bottlenecks in AHSS adoption.
The workshop wraps up Combient Pure's project on Decarbonizing Steel Use Through Advanced High Strength Steels, funded by the Swedish foundation Hugo Carlssons Stiftelse för Vetenskaplig Forskning, and highlights results from our study on AHSS supply, value chain needs & capabilities, and how to screen for new AHSS applications.
Preliminary Agenda

Why advanced high strength steels (AHSS)?
Steel use is a major source of emissions for many industrial manufacturing companies, who often have ambitious decarbonization targets. But steel users cannot rely on the supply of low carbon steel alone to reach these climate goals. Global demand for low carbon steel will outstrip supply in the short term, and price premiums can further restrict procurement options in cost-sensitive industrial environments.
Advanced high strength steels (AHSS) provides another avenue for steel decarbonization, as it's already globally available. AHSS use can reduce the mass of steel used, lowering emissions and delivering cost savings in product design and manufacturing processes.
High strength steels have already been widely used in the automotive sector, but understudied in other applications. With this project, Combient Pure, together with a wide ecosystem of steel industry players, contributes to a shared vision on the potential of AHSS as a tool for decarbonization and product innovation.
What is this project about?
The project brings together steel experts, producers, and users to identify opportunities for using advanced high strength steel (AHSS) to drive innovation and decarbonization in industrial applications.
In the project, we compile a pre-conditions list and self-assessment tool for new AHSS industrial applications, identify new use cases for AHSS and deep dive into key AHSS bottlenecks including supply and value chain capabilities, and create a high-level understanding of the potential decarbonization impact of AHSS.
Kindly note this is a public event, which will not be covered by the Combient bi-directional NDA.
